Guitar Binding Repair

Here’s the photo chronicle of a bit of binding repair from a Martin guitar that came in. Some of the binding on the back of the guitar had totally separated at the waist. A bit of binding was also loose on the top and along the fingerboard. This guitar has a multi-layered binding, some of which was missing.

I laminated, thicknessed, and color tinted some binding strips to replace those that were missing. I chose to use fish glue to reattach the binding. I like fish glue because it is water soluble and friendly to being reworked.

After all was said and done it came out looking great and is now ready to be played without risk of tearing more binding loose. What a privilege to work on this great guitar!
